Die 15 Inseln, die den Staat Cook Islands bilden, sind weit verstreut im Südpazifik. Die Hauptinsel Rarotonga wird regelmässig von Air New Zealand angeflogen, manchmal fliegen auch Charter der "Canada3000". Die Verbindung zu den anderen Cook-Inseln wird von der lokalen Air Rarotonga sichergestellt, die Verbindungen sind aber unregelmässig. Die Ressorts in Rarotonga und Aitutaki haben oft internationalen Tourismus-Standard. Die Hauptinsel Rarotonga und Aitutaki sind in den letzten paar Jahren (seit 2000)sehr geschäftigt geworden, die Preise für Unterkünfte rasant gestiegen. Der Tourismus hinterlässt nun auch hier Spuren und verändert die lokalen Traditionen und Lebensweisen vieler Cook Islander, vor allem in Rarotonga und den mondänen Ressorts. Die Touristen-Visa werden zwar nach wie vor strikte gehandhabt, und alle Besucherinnen und Besucher müssen bei der Einreise ihre Übernachtungsbuchungen vorweisen. Dies bringt den Nachteil des "blinden" Vorausbuchens mit sich - und in Reisebüros werden nur Ressorts und Hotels/Motels angeboten. The 15 Cook Islands are scattered between Tahiti and
Samo, some Outer-Islands in the northern Cooks-Group are up to four hours' flight away
from the main Island, called Rarotonga. There are daily flights to and from Rarotonga,
either from New Zealand or from the States (via Tahiti or Hawaii) by Air New Zealand. The
flight services between the Islands itselfs are provided by the lokal Air Rarotonga.
Many tourism-ressorts in Rarotonga and Aitutaki have international standard. In Avarua,
the main town of Rarotonga, there are all kind of shops for your daily needs - and many
